Kim Yo Jong has issued a fierce denial regarding allegations that North Korea orchestrated a staggering six billion dollar theft from the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. In a statement released through the state run Korean Central News Agency, the sister of leader Kim Jong Un dismissed accusations made by the FBI as completely absurd. She characterized the American claims not as legitimate law enforcement findings but as calculated attempts to mislead global opinion about her country’s activities in cyberspace.
The North Korean official went further by labeling the U.S. government’s attribution of the hack as a grave political provocation. According to Kim, these charges serve as clear evidence of Washington’s enduring hostile attitude toward the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. By framing North Korea as the culprit behind various international cyber crimes, she argued that the United States is attempting to paint an unfair picture of Pyongyang on the world stage.
Despite the sharp rhetoric and high tensions surrounding the digital heist, there were subtle hints within the communication that might suggest a lingering interest in diplomatic channels. While primarily focused on condemning what she views as false accusations, Kim’s approach appeared to maintain a slim opening for future dialogue, even as she pushed back against the pressure coming from Western intelligence agencies.
